Robert Morrow, Project Manager
Robert (Bob) has been the Project Manager for Tomatosphere since February, 2002. His background is in education. He was a classroom teacher in Hamilton, Dundas, and Ancaster in Ontario; he was a teacher trainer in both Ontario and in East Africa. A geographer, Bob is also the author of three Canadian atlases, published by Pearson Canada. These are among the 114 books that he has authored or co-authored since 1969.
Bob's professional career started in Hamilton, then to Parkside in Dundas as geography department head. A two-year stint in Nyeri, Kenya involved teaching at a primary teacher training college, helping young people to bring their skills and knowledge to the development of that country. He returned to Highland Secondary School in Dundas (10.5 years) and Ancaster High (2 years) before becoming a consultant in geography, history and family studies for his school board. His focus changed to curriculum in general and assessment specifically as the board's structure evolved. Over the years Bob has been actively involved in the professional development area of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation; he served as Director of Resource Books for OSSTF for nine years. He was seconded five times to the Ministry of Education and Training in their curriculum and evaluation departments.
A five-year spell with Ontario Agri-Food Education followed Bob's formal "retirement" from teaching. With OAFE, Bob co-ordinated the first teacher's guide development for The Tomatosphere Project. Currently he works as a consultant for the governments of Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay on environmental education issues and is a text reviewer and consultant to a variety of projects including the CBC's Nature of Things.
Bob has led an active life in his church and local Rotary Club. He is the recipient of the many awards including the Andre Lecuyer Award for Professional Development, the Order of Niagara and five Paul Harris Awards in Rotary.
He lives in Dundas with his wife, Lynne, also a Paul Harris Award recipient.
Tomatosphere is sponsored by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the Canadian Space Agency, Heinz Canada, H.J. Heinz Company Foundation, Ontario Centres of Excellence, Stokes Seeds and the University of Guelph.
