Curriculum expectations
From the Common Framework of Science Learning Outcomes K-12, Pan-Canadian Protocol for Collaboration on School Curriculum, Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC), 1997.
- Describe and explain the role of experimentation, collecting evidence, finding relationships, proposing explanations, and imagination in the development of scientific knowledge.
- Relate personal activities and various scientific and technological endeavours to specific science disciplines and interdisciplinary study areas.
- Identify new questions and problems that arise from what was learned.
In addition, there are several courses in Family Studies, Nutrition and Social Sciences that have specific expectations related to this module. These include:
- Identify the ways in which physical factors influence food choices;
- Plan menus for, select, and prepare foods, taking into consideration economic, geo- graphical, and other factors that affect the availability of ingredients;
- Describe ways of preparing and storing food to provide for maximum nutrient retention;
- Identify the role of fibre and water in the body, and the sources and roles of the major components of nutrients;
- Identify new developments in food preparation.
